Whilst its refreshing to have green areas within the proximity of town, I cant hell but feel the stray is a little bare. Supposedly the land was left on trust by a wealthy individual some decades ago, but a flat and stripped series of fields does not live up to the standards of other city/town parks. With so little actual vegetation other than a few bordering trees, valley gardens makes for a much more interesting visit.
Lovely close-to-town facility as a break from shopping. I love the different seasons, but especially crocus strewn meadows in the spring. Call in on the way to Harlow Carr Gardens.
A really nice, big field that can be used for playing football with some friends, running, cycling, barbeques, etc. It is so huge you could even play a cricket match on it if you wanted to and there would still be more than enough room for others. Also on new years the whole of the Harrogate community around that area came out and watched a fireworks display they did there which was really nice.
The stray in harrogate is great. It's always full of people having picnics and drinks and children playing. A wonderful place to relax, walk, and sit while the world rushes past. One of the cleanest town parks to be found, thanks to the local council, and the locals who use it.
Wide-spread green open area around the centre of Harrogate, which is an absolute gem. This area is a unique green space, which has survived for many years and is a great asset to Harrogate. Brilliant!!!Every time we come to Harrogate, we make a point of walking around part of the Stray.
