Took my grandaughter for afternoon tea walked into such a beautiful decorated room and such a friendly greeting As I had pre--booked our table was set and as my granddaughter said looked amazing .My granddaughter had the child's tea and I the adults each came served seperatly on stands so much variety off sandwiches,pastries and cakes again I quote my grandaughter amazing what cakes we couldn't eat as so full was boxed for us to take home. I cannot recommend mama Doreens enough I have booked to take my granddaughter and a few off her friends for a birthday treat and will certainly visit with a few off my friends for lunch with possibly a glass of pressecco. Wow!!!! Will highly recommend to everyone. We had afternoon tea, delicious food, couldn't eat everything so brought the rest home!! Staff are very friendly, we never felt rushed. Really quirky place, just loved it
The place was quaint and homely. A boutique tea room, which did not feel crowded. The rococo interior was complementary to the setting and worked very well. Also, it is good value for money and priced below competitors. The food was fresh and delicious. However, a few suggestions. First, for a boutique tea room, try and use unique teas. The teas used were Twinings and they are quite cheap, tasteless and mass produced. For such a place I would expect something more upmarket. I would not mind paying an extra 1 or 2 on top of the price for a good quality tea. Second, please try and use more gentle flavours for the desserts. I think some of the flavours were a little bit too sweet and sickly, or far too unusual for an afternoon tea. But overall the service was good, food was fresh and the setting was unique. Would recommend.
Don't pass Mama Doreen's by if you're in Harrogate. Known for their cakes and cupcakes (you can take these away or have occasion cakes made to order), Mama Doreen's also does an amazing array of home-made savouries and desserts. Afternoon tea here is something special and all very reasonably priced. You can take any leftovers home - they're proper Yorkshire portions at this family-run independent business. Delicious!
